On March 25 and April 8 some of our lovely staff members got to serve a meal to the residents of the Torres Shelter in Chico! This was a great staff bonding event, and everyone left feeling like they made a difference!

Even though there are still several weeks in the semester, it is already time for CAVE to start recruiting group leaders for next semester! If you’re interested in becoming part of the CAVE family, you should attend one of our open houses next week!

Open houses will be held Monday, March 28 and Tuesday, March 29 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the CAVE office, BMU 309. For more information come into to CAVE office or check out our feature box on the AS Home page!

Did you know that the deadline to submit an application to become an elected official for the Associated Students is this week?

With all the wonderful things that our CAVE staff and volunteers do, we think they would be ideal candidates for any of these positions!

So get out there and APPLY!!! The deadline for applications is Thursday, March 24 by noon. Applications should be turned into the Government Affairs Office in BMU 302.

Spring Break is typically the first chance most of us get to relax during the spring semester, but not everyone is going to be heading to a vacation spot or their hometown to relax for a week.

Since 2006, CAVE has been offering the Alternative Spring Break (ASB) program which takes a group of volunteers on a trip to a location where they spend the week volunteering and exploring an environment different from Chico.

This year’s ASB trip will be working with Habitat for Humanity Greater Los Angeles Area. They will be taking a group of eight other volunteers in addition to two CAVE staff members to Los Angeles to build a house for a family.

Elisa Trimboli and Hannah Murphy (pictured above) have been working very hard to get this years ASB program together. Murphy, the program coordinator has spent an average of 20 hours a week in the CAVE office preparing for the six day excursion, which begins this Sunday.

Murphy, who has been on one ASB trip already, has a lot to look forward to after all her hard work. In true CAVE spirit, she is most excited to be helping others.

“I’m really looking forward to meeting the family we’re going to be building the house for,” Murphy said.

As a member of the CAVE career staff, Trimboli, who is going on her fourth ASB trip, has a different aspect of the trip to look forward to.

“I’m really looking forward to the students being able to bond,” Trimboli said. “They always grow so much in their empathy toward others.”

Our surprise was well worth waiting for! We were treated to a lovely dinner at Mary Flynn’s home where she made the best food any of us have had in a long while! We had delicious food, dessert and great company! Can’t wait until next year!

Today is a very exciting day in the CAVE office!

For those of you who do not know, all CAVE staff is required to do seven class talks during our recruitment period. That means, you have to find a classroom or organization to talk about CAVE in and have the professor sign your slip.

Because so many of our CAVE staff members are natural over-achievers, there is a secret surprise for those who complete more than the required seven talks. Our lovely program administrator, Mary is in charge of this surprise.

Did you know that two of our current staff members, Liza Worden and Elyse Gutowski made their stage debuts in the

AS Women’s Center’s production of the Vagina Monologues?

The production ran last Friday and Saturday and both of our lovely CAVE staff members did a wonderful job! Also, Elyse is truly a star because her story is featured on the AS home page this week!

Did you know that some of our staff has hidden talents beyond being awesome CAVE staff?

In the first edition of our CAVE hidden talent segment, we meet Allison Meekins! In case you weren’t aware, she is also a singer!

“I’ve been told that I’ve been singing since I was a toddler,” Meekins said. “It’s my release when I’m stressed, sad or happy.”

Meekins is a third-year student is one of the four lovely clerical assistants in the CAVE office. She is a Music Industry major with a minor in Communication Studies. She also began her own campus organization, C.A.L.M. Productions , which hosts music shows for struggling non-profit organizations.
